Some Stuff I Wrote (2001) H. Morris Williams

of Columbia County the happiest years of their lives. In the annals of CHS football, Paul Quinn will

                      be remembered forever.

                                                        Kie Vining, Sr. (1910-1989)
Kie Vining was so closely associated with Tiger football that some people just naturally
assumed that his funeral service would be held at Memorial Stadium. Kie was larger than life, an

institution. Games did not officially begin until Kie arrived. In fact, some people swear they have
seen the game official glance toward the sideline to be sure Kie was there before they whistled the

opening kickoff. He was always there. Kie and Maggie, his wife for 60 years, attended athletic
events in all sports in all seasons in all weather to support the Tigers. At the next Tiger game, watch

carefully. You may see the head official look toward the stands just before the kickoff searching for
Kie. Wearing his overalls and his dark hat, seated next to Maggie, Kie will be there. Then the game

                      will begin.
                                                   Cecil W. “Guinea” Register (1910-1991)

Cecil W. “Guinea” Register was one of the greatest Tiger boosters of them all. When he was
a Tiger football player, his great spirit and enthusiasm was an inspiration to the team and student

body. A war hero in World War II, he was a shining example of American patriotism. As a Tiger
booster, his dedication ran so deep that once, when ill, he arranged to be transported to the game in
an ambulance and watched from the sideline on a stretcher. Through his work in the community and

his church, he was a model supporter of young people. Whenever CHS plays, the great Tiger spirit
of Guinea Register will be there cheering CHS to victory.

                                                       Norman L. Choice (1944-1992)
Norman L. Choice was the pre-eminent CHS choral music director, par-excellence. He was

the best - so talented that State Commissioner of Education Betty Castor invited him and him only
to bring a choral group to perform at her Tallahassee inauguration. Norman had the magnificent

ability to see incredibly beautiful music within all his students and to bring it forth under his expert
direction. His students adored him. His community-wide audiences thrilled to his performances.

A great Christian, Norman Choice departed this life just before Easter, 1992. It seemed God had
called him to Heaven to direct the angelic choir at Easter time. God had made the “Perfect Choice.”
