                supervising principal over both campuses.
After one year, Henry Williams took a position in Georgia, and Martin Ferguson died. David

Ellis became principal over both campuses, aided by assistants Jack Rankin and Bob Oppermann.
Dr. Russell Richards succeeded Ellis and is now principal at Warner Christian Academy in

Daytona Beach. Ken Herring, former Fort White principal followed Richards. Brian Jetter, former
Gainesville High School administrator, is the current CHS principal.

Through the 1940's, CHS principals were addressed by the title “professor.”

                                        Tributes to Five People

                                                     October 6,1992

The Columbia County Quarterback Club’s football program has featured tributes to five

               individuals.
                                                   Bill Harrison (1910-1992)
Bill Harrison loved high school sports so much that his three sons—Charles, Bobby and

Donnie -all caught the fever and went into coaching. Bill always went the extra mile for CHS
sports. He had near-perfect attendance at Quarterback Club meetings for many years. He voluntarily

helped prepare Memorial Stadium for each Friday night game. He held cookouts for players and
coaches at his own expense. Bill never sought praise or credit for what he did - he just did tilings

for the love of the team. From Section 8, Row B in Memorial Stadium, Bill and his wife Mabel
supported their beloved Tigers for more than 25 years. Bill Harrison: a great and wonderful part of

               the CHS Tiger tradition.
                                                Coach Paul Quinn (1924-1990)
Coach Paul Quinn coached at CHS during the 1960’s, carving out an 81-8-2 record in seven

years, including unbeaten regular season finishes in 1964,1967, and 1969. He led his 1967 team to
a perfect 13-0 record and CHS’s only state championship, and he took his 1964 team to the title

game. Coach Quinn created a renewed sense of excitement at CHS and in the community where
thousands flocked to his team’s games, home and away. Simply put, Paul Quinn gave many people
