Some Stuff I Wrote (2001) H. Morris Williams

THE ADAMS’ BOYS ... Scott Adams was the guest speaker at this year’s CHS football

banquet and he did a terrific job. When you hear Scott speak you realize he is so much more than
just a football player. He would be considered a great human being even if he had never played a

down for the Tigers, the Georgia Bulldogs or the Minnesota Vikings. Likewise, Scott’s brother,
Brett, is a high-quality person in every way. Brett is an outstanding student-athlete at Flagler College
and this is what his baseball coach, Dave Barnett, says about him, “Brett is one of the best team

leaders we have ever had. He is completely unselfish and can break up a game with one swing of
his bat. When you define the perfect student-athlete and a community citizen you are describing

Brett Adams. He has a bright future as a pro player or as an accountant.” Both Scott and Brett have
reflected enormous credit on Columbia High School and our community. But then how could they

be anything but wonderful with parents like Larry and Charlotte!

                                          Basketball Memories

                                                    February 15,1994

Columbia High School basketball coach Randall Leath has this year’s Tiger hoopsters flying
high with a 23-4 record and hoping for a state playoff berth. This gives us a good reason to take a

look back at some of the CHS teams and players of the past.
                                                         PLAYERS

Henry Cornell was so good he went on to be a 2-year starter with the Florida Gators in the
               late 1940's.

Pat Summerall and Wink Criswell led CHS to its only state basketball championship back
               in 1947.

John Wood, a great 3-sport athlete, once scored 49 points in one game in 1953.
Randall Jackson almost led the Tigers to a state championship in 1962, barely falling short
in an overtime loss to Apopka in the championship game.

Scooter Houston averaged over 20 points per game in leading his team to 23-2 regular season
record and the state semifinal in 1968.

Jonathan Burgess was the first black student to play in the starting lineup for CHS. He was
