The local Giebeig clan has done remarkable things in our community. Here are just a few
of them. The late Paul Giebeig was the first principal at Five Points Elementary School where he

served for 26 years. Contractor Bud Giebeig built Melrose Park Elementary School. Richard
Giebeig was named the top high school running back in Florida in 1974 and went to college in

Tennessee on a football scholarship. Ann Giebeig was Miss Columbia High and Carol Giebeig was
Homecoming Queen her senior year. Robert Giebeig has a doctorate degree in history and owns two

successful businesses in St. Augustine. Earl Giebeig was the first male cheerleader at CHS and he
was so good that he opened doors for other male cheerleaders in later years. Lori Giebeig was the

top swimmer at CHS her senior year and swam in college at Georgia Southern. Erin Giebeig played
on the CHS varsity softball team when she was just an eighth-grader. Van “Iron Man” Giebeig was

captain of his high school football team. And on and on. You could fill an entire section of this
newspaper with the wonderful accomplishments of the Giebeigs and what they have meant to our
