Some Stuff I Wrote (2001) H. Morris Williams
4. Three CHS players have played in the National Football League. Two of them are Pat
Summerall (Detroit Lions, Chicago Cardinals, New York Giants) and Scott Adams (Minnesota
Vikings). Who is the third and what was his NFL team?
5. One former CHS coach and one former player are now members of the Florida Sports Hall
of Fame. Who are they?
6. There have been two father-won combinations to captain CHS football teams as season-
long captains. One was Hugh Wilson (1929) and his son Jimmy Wilson (1960). Who is the other
father-son combination?
7. In 1991, a former CHS Tiger captain (1960) coached his Frostproof High School team to
the state championship. The next year he announced his retirement from coaching. For his great
service to the coaching profession, the Florida Athletic Coaches Association inducted him into their
Hall of Fame. (A) Who is he, and (B) Who was his co-captain back in 1960?
8. Coach Bob Simmons coached the CHS Tigers longer than anybody else - 15 years. Next
is Coach Hobe Hooser with 11 years. Then comes Coach Paul Quinn with seven years. What coach
is next in line with the most years as Tigers head coach. Clue: He coached six years, from 1955-60.
9. Only once have two former CHS players been in the starting lineup in the same year for an
entire season at FSU. Who were these two players and what were their positions?
10. Multiple choice - One CHS coach stayed in Lake City only one year. During that time he
coached Tiger greats like Fred Rozelle and Buck North. Four years after he left Lake City, he
became head coach of the very first football team at FSU. Was this coach Jim Reeves, Wink
Criswell, or Ed Williamson?
11. In 1949, our football field was officially renamed Memorial Stadium in honor of American
war dead. After the pre game ceremony dedicating the new stadium, our Tigers played Leon High
School and upset them 7-0. What CHS running back scored that touchdown and thus became the
first person to score a touchdown at Memorial Stadium under its new name? Clue: He later went
into coaching and ironically spent most of his career coaching at Leon High School. He is now a
member of the Florida Sports Hall of Fame.
