                                             A Ton of Thanks

                                                      August 9,1994

Today, I will thank some friends who have made recent donations to our school museum.

Ferra Appell Glaze (CHS 1938) . . . Ferra donated a “map” of Lake City which shows the
way our town looked in 1885. Actually, the map is a reproduction of an old print that belonged to

              J. A. Fisher; Esquire, and it is presented from an aerial view. The map has created a lot of interest
with its startling details of street names, buildings, railroads, trees, and lakes. If any of you readers

know the name of the artist of this map or where the original painting is, please call me at 755-8183.
Many of you will, of course, remember Ferra as a former, longtime Lake City resident whose family

had a reputation for community service. Ferra’s father, Dr. Frank Appell, owned and operated the
Seminole Pharmacy on North Main Street for many years. Thanks also to Ferra for her earlier

donation of her personal “Scrapbook” which covered her years as a CHS student.
ANNE GODING______ Anne is the superb historian of St. James Episcopal Church and also

a collector of other local memorabilia. In the spirit of sharing, Anne has graciously donated her
personal collection of picture post cards of Lake City, dating back to the early 1900s. The collection
includes photos of early scenes of downtown Lake City, and also, many public buildings and private

residences. There are also photos of Florida Agricultural College which became the University of
Florida in 1906. Anne has also donated a copy of a program printed for the play, “Much Ado About

Betty,” presented by Columbia College (successor to Florida Agricultural College) in 1917. Along
with everything already mentioned, Anne also donated a list of all Columbia County teachers
(“colored” and white) who were employed in 1916. This list shows each teacher’s assigned school

and salary. Thank you, Anne, for these one-of-a-kind donations.
MORE THANKS... To June Parkin of June’s Junque for donating excellent photos of the

long demolished Lake Theater and other local scenes... To Robert Pearce and Charlotte Adams for
