Some Stuff I Wrote (2001) H. Morris Williams
black Tiger on a well-executed reverse rollout, also against Orange Park), and L. C. Bradley - who
is now principal at Lake City Middle School. The 1970 Tigers posted a 9-2 record and played
Fletcher in the Meninak Bowl in Jacksonville.
MORE FIRSTS______When Terry Huddleston became principal at CHS, he became the first
CHS principal to graduate from CHS and LCCC. He is also the first to ‘Svork his way up,” having
served at each instructional level along the way: teacher, coach, dean, assistant principal, LCMS
principal, and now CHS principal. Likewise, Lake City Middle School principal L. C. Bradley has
“paid his dues” at each step of the way: a CHS graduate, teacher, coach, dean, assistant principal
and now principal. Both men are highly qualified educational leaders and hard workers. Our school
system is luck to have leaders of their caliber.
CONGRATULATIONS AND THANKS... Congratulations to our School Superintendent
Dianne Lane who has completed her doctoral program and is now entitled to be called Dr. Lane ...
Enormous thanks go to Rev. Jerry Upping and the fine people at First Christian Church who
graciously allowed the temporarily homeless Columbia City Elementary School faculty to use their
building for preschool planning — at no charge. Jerry, you and your church people have truly been
a “gift from God.”
Do You Remember!
August 30,1994
When the Santa Fe Raiders were called the Rebels? When the St. Augustine Yellow Jackets
were called the Mullets? When the CHS Tigers were called the Terrors? When the High Springs
High School team was called the Sandspurs? When Mason City was called the Wildcats? When
White Springs High School played six man football? When Patlatka High was called the Maroons?
If so, then here is your homework assignment. What was the nickname of Wellborn High School?
These former Wellbomites can give you a clue: Connie Bennett, Shirley Mikell, Connie Knotts, Fred
Lewis or Russell Bailey.
