I do not see a bit of you in him,
Not in his manner, nor his voice, nor face,
No gesture nor inflection, not a trace
Of your remembered presence that I go
Snatched by the force of my heart’s undertow
Into a past which should by now be dim.
No. There is nothing at all of you in him,
And yet if he but lifts his hand I know
A sudden pang of memory the slow
Erosion of the years cannot efface
Nor any conscious effort of the mind erase:
You didn’t do it thus, You did is so.
