Tigers Burn Braves
The Tiger squad really showed their
stuff in their first victory of the sea-
son, by beating Parker Braves 21-
13. In the first quarter the Braves
wasted no time in putting seven
points on the scoreboard. Later dur-
ing the first quarter Duke Silvey and
Kelly Lowrey pushed the ball for-
ward just six yards away from the
goa/line. Then Tommy Young broke
up the middle to put the Tigers on
the scoreboard for the first time this
season, not counting the Jamboree.
With the scoreboard reading 6 to 7
Paul Johnson kicked the extra point,
which made it a tied football game.
During the second quarter Guerry
Espenship moved the ball yards
away from a Tiger touchdown. Then
with one minute left in the first half
3 Kelly Lowrey plowed through the
Braves defense for a touchdown. By
the half the score was Tigers 14,
Braves 7.
When action returned to begin the
second half the Tiger spirit
emerged. Tommy Young made an-
other touchdown and the extra
point was also good, making the
score 21 to 7. The rest of the third
quarter the Tiger defense refused to
let Parker make a touchdown.
With the score 21 to 7 in the fourth
quarter, quarterback Robert Haynes
made a touchdown for Parker, but
Parkers failure to make the two
point conversion made Parker's
spirit drop. As the final seconds
ticked away the Columbia High
School Tigers knew they had won
their first game.
