The Year the Columbia Tigers Made Football History
The Columbia Tigers had the best season Columbia County H1gh School
had ever seen. They went through every team along the way to Championship with
ease. Not only did they have to get to D1stnct, they had to go through Regional and
then to State. When they fmally got to state their status was fourteen wins and zero
losses. The game was played Saturday December 20,1997. Eighteen thousand people
packed into the Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Florida. The match up was the
Columbia High Tigers vs The M1ami Carol City Chiefs. The game started with the Chiefs
making the kickoff to the Columbia Tigers. From then until the second half, the Tigers
tore the Chiefs apart, by halft1me the score was Tigers 17, Chiefs 6. When the Tigers
rolled onto the field they were feeling optimistic. It was an emot1onal day for the Tigers,
they played hard, and they wanted to wm but the Chiefs came out 1n top form and domi-
nated the rest of the game The final score ended up Tigers 17 Chiefs 20." Getting to the
Championship was the best part of the game," said senior Chris Butler. This game was
a rough closing to a outstandmg season and an excellent year. The Tigers remain CHS
champions in the hearts of all their
