Lake City, Florida: A Sesquicentennial Tribute (2009) H. Morris Williams, Dr. Kevin M. McCarthy
When the LCCC Timberwolves baseball team learned that
the 2008 season would be the college’s final one, they adopted the
slogan, “If there were no tomorrow, how hard would you play to-
day?” They answered their own question with a splendid end-of-sea-
son surge that propelled them into post-season play. In a must-win
last game of the season, the Wolves beat conference leader Seminole
CC in a thriller. On a day resplendent in Florida sunshine, they played
baseball the way the game is supposed to be played—with spirit,
hustle, energy, and love. We will always remember that wonderful
game and you can add our name to the long list of fans who will sorely
miss Timberwolf baseball and the extraordinary leadership of Coach
Tom Clark.
A major loss in 2008 for the college was its correctional of-
ficer training program, a cooperative effort it had with the Florida
Department of Corrections, which began training its staff internally.
As a result, the community college lost between 450-650 students
annually. The school was the first community college in the state to
offer an associate’s degree that bridged the gap between corrections
and law enforcement. Some corrections classes are still privately of-
fered at the Olustee Corrections Academy.
Statues of the school’s mascot around campus are well done.
