Two Coaches Who Moved Up
December 7,1993
Ed and Peahead.. .CHS has had two head football coaches who later became coaches at
major colleges, Ed Williamson and Peahead Walker. Peahead coached here in 1923, later coached
at Wake Forest University. Ed Williamson coached here in 1943 (his team captains were Fred
Rozelle and Buck North), later coached the first football team at FSU. Peahead Walker also coached
at Elon College in North Carolina where Lake Citian Ruby Briggs attended school and knew
Peahead’s brother Archie.
Didn’t it rain!... Football fans who attended this year’s Florida-Georgia football game in

fabled Blue Horse bike. But he never got to ride it much because he had to go to World War II.
When he returned from service, the bike was still sturdy and strong and being used every day. Do
you know anyone else who ever won a Blue Horse bike?

mind those boys who, in days gone by, acquitted themselves so well on the same field where we play
today. Short days ago, they lived, played, felt the thrill of victory. They were praised and cheered.
They loved and were loved; but now they lie in honored graves among the heroes of our fatherland.
Our lives are richer and better because they played so well the game of life. . . . Therefore, in the
name of the Father and Son and Holy Ghost, we dedicate this stadium to the noble who here once
strove to win and who now wear the immortal crown of victory, to the glory of God and for the
