Montgomery, Wayne Nettles, Cline Feagle, Sandy Paul Register, Marion Mann, Kenneth Witt,
Ronald Williams, Jerry Ward, and Ludie Shipp. Answer: They all served terms as chairman of our
County Commission in more recent years.

Interim Sheriffs.. -Since 1874, Columbia County has had at least five interim (temporarily
appointed) sheriffs: James W. Perry, W. E. Dennard, Floyd Crawford, J. M. “Buddy” Phillips and

               Ray O Dyal.
Magic Moments.. .The LCCC dedication of its Performing Arts Center in Alfonso Levy’s

name last Friday night was superb in every way. Ken Amaro of TV Channel 12 flawlessly emceed
the program at the PAC and Tony Buzzella was a roaring success at the Holiday Inn “roast.”

Alfonso and wife Celestine were visibly overwhelmed at the outpouring of community love and
appreciation. The best part was we honored him while he is still alive and able to enjoy it!

Love that name.. .Some Lake City musicians were traveling near Nashville, Tenn., when
they saw a road sign, “The Granny White Pike”. They loved the unusual name and so later when they

started their own band, they called themselves, “The Granny White Pike Band.” They performed
this past weekend at the Suwannee River Jam in Live Oak, along with Kenny Rogers, Alan Jackson,

               Pam Tillis and Lorrie Morgan.
The last homecoming. . .Friday, October 22, at 7:30 p.m. is the kickoff time for the last

scheduled homecoming at Memorial Stadium. You might want to bring the children early to see a
parachutist bring in the American flag. Then, all CHS alumni will be invited to come onto the field
and help unfurl the huge, HUGE, flag over half the field for the National Anthem. Then after the

game, stay while the bands combine to play “Thanks for the Memories” and “Auld Lang Syne”, and

                watch the fireworks display.
Unusual homecoming incident. . .At homecoming, 1951, Coach Broughton Williams’
homeroom did a display in the window of the DeSoto Drug Store showing a swami peering into a

crystal ball predicting a 33-0 win over Live Oak. That night, the Tigers won, 33-0!
