Some Stuff I Wrote (2001) H. Morris Williams
MEMORIAL STADIUM SPECTATORS
Comradery filled the stadium
As men and women
Father and son,
Mother and daughter,
Proceeded through repeating the myth.
Lifting the flag,
Making the end of an era,
For mother, for father,
For grandparents and even for themselves.
We watched young men and women,
Making life-long memories,
Shouldering responsibility,
And gaining joyful consequences from hard work.
Spirits soared as athletes displayed their talents,
And brave young men dared their mother’s voice,
To shave their heads in unison,
And join their minds to each other, forever.
For no matter where or when they gather together,
The pride and gentle tie will make their minds one.
If just to flash back to what we saw,
That which they were.
Pretty girls, proud parents,
