ORDINANCE No. 14. 118/257
Unsafe Buildings and Awnings.
Sec. 1. Every wall, house, building or other
structure in the city which is in an unsafe condition
and liable to endanger the life or limb of any per
son passing thereby or residing therein or being in
the vicinity thereof, or to cause danger to property
other than that of the owner of such wall, house,
building or other structure, is hereby declared to
be a nuisance.
Sec. 2. It shall be the duty of the Street
Committee to inspect any and all walls, houses,
buildings, and other structures which they may sus
pect to be in unsafe condition and liable to endanger
the life or limb of any person passing thereby or
residing therein or being in the vicinity thereof or
to cause damage to property other than that of the
owner, and upon finding the same in such unsafe
condition, they shall report the facts to the Mayor.
It shall be the duty of the City Marshal, under
the direction of the Mayor, to immediately notify
the owner, agent of the owner, or other person
having the charge or control of such property to
cause such wall, house, building or other structure
to be removed or made secure within a reasonable
time to be specified in such notice, not less than
twenty-four hours thereafter, and such person
shall remove or make secure any such wall, house,
building or other structure, within the time spec-
fied in said notice; and any person failing or re
fusing so to do shall, upon conviction thereof, be
fined not exceeding five hundred dollars or im
prisoned not exceeding ninety days; and in case
such wall, house, building or other structure is not
removed or made secure in accordance with the
