Sec. 7. That all traps shall be properly,
scientifically and perfectly ventilated from the
center of the crown; no anti-syphon traps shall be
used; and no variation from this rule shall be made
except upon special recommendation of the inspec
tor and permit from the City Council.
Sec. 8. That when within a building, tar-
coated cast iron pipes and fittings shall be used.
No connections shall be allowed with soil pipes
except those laid with lead pipes and brass fer
rule unless first approved by the inspector; all
joints to be wiped within buildings on both waste
and supply pipes; no cup or bolt joints shall be
allowed under any circumstances. Traps and
fresh air inlets shall be placed in house sewers
when deemed necessary by the inspector and
Council and then upon permit only. Where build
ings are set on piers or high pillars and sewer pipes
can be covered at least one foot at the shallowest
and with unmade earth, terra cotta pipe can be
used, but in the case of enclosed buildings the
sewerage must in every case be of cast iron pipe
tar coated.
Sec. 9. That all pipe system must be as direct
and as practicable and shall have a proper fall
toward the sewer. Soil pipes shall be carried
through the roof of such size and to such height
as may be directed by the inspector and no pipe
shall be carried to a height less than one foot above
the roof of the main building and above all win
dows and openings and the same shall be left open
at the top. No square bends shall be allowed in
either lead or cast iron waste pipes. At the bottom
