the City jail and all property connected therewith
and shall at all times be held responsible tor same. 218/257
Sec. 5. The chief of police shall have direct
charge of all policemen while serving the City in
the capacity of a police officer: shall assign to each
their respective territory or beats and shall provide
each police officer with a blank report showing the
territory policed by said officer, shall keep a record
of all such reports and submit such reports to the
Mayor of the City once each week.
Sec. 6. It shall be the duty of the chief of
police to receive all requests by a police officer for
a lief of absence and to have the power to grant
same .for a period not longer than seven days.
Should the request be for a longer time it shall
be the duty of the said chief of police to submit
said request to the Mayor of the City. It shall be
the duty of the chief of police to fill the vacancy
caused by said leave of absence by some person
qualified to fill the position as a police officer, said
person to be first approved by the Mayor.
Sec. 7. It shall be the duty of the chief of
police to approve all bonds taken by a police officer
and shall have the custody of the same.
Sec. 8. The chief of police shall prescribe the
kind of uniform to be worn by the members of the
police force while on duty and shall enforce the
wearing of same. He shall make such other and
further rules and regulations for the government
of the police force as may be just and reasonable
and shall report any violation of an established
rule or of this ordinance to the Mayor of the City.
